Financial Aid
It is always best to apply for financial aid as early as possible. The earliest you can apply is January 1st for the fall semester. While you may apply at anytime throughout the school year, the State of Maryland Priority Deadline is March 1st. The most common mistake students make is waiting until they make their final decision about what college they will attend before applying for aid. Apply early to qualify for the largest award possible. Please use the resources on this page to walk you through the financial aid process, or contact our office with any questions, 410-837-4763 or financial-aid@ubalt.edu.
Applying for Financial Aid
Applying for financial aid requires two things: a co-operative relationship between you and the Office of Financial Aid, and attention to detail. Below are some other pointers for making the process as pain-free as possible:
- apply for admission -- Your application for financial aid will be reviewed once your application is complete and you have been accepted into a qualified academic program.
- once you have been accepted you will receive a MyUB account, access to all financial aid directions and forms are found on the left side under My Student Center. For assistance with logging into MyUB contact the OTS Call Center at 410.837.6262 or callcenter@ubalt.edu.
- apply for aid every year -- Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year as early as possible. The State of Maryland's Priority Deadline is March 1st. Remember your FAFSA Pin number, you will need it often. Apply at www.fafsa.gov. The University of Baltimore School Code is 002102.
- Documents needed by the Office of Financial Aid will be listed on your ToDo list, on MyUB. Mark all documents clearly with your name and student ID number. If you do not know your ID number log into your MyUB and look for the My ID Infor, on the far right. You may fax documents to 410-837-5493. Our faxes are imaged upon receipt so no paper copy is created. This reduces the chance of lost pages or inability to read them, but does require approximately 24 business hours for them to be accessible by office staff. If you need to confirm reciept before this time we will need to know what number it was sent from and the approximate time it was sent.
- keep copies of everything.
- processing of applications and awarding begins after the March 1 priority deadline for new students, and every June for returning students
Tips to Avoid Delays in your Application
- Review your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy.
- determine the loan amount you will need for the academic year. See costs of attendance
- do not submit multiple loan changes
- keep your local address current on MyUB. You may update your address on MyUB, in the My Student Center.
- supply consistent, accurate information on your application and documentation.
- submit documentation with any appeals you file. An appeal without documentation cannot be considered.
- tell the Office of Financial Aid about any scholarships, graduate assistantships or other outside resources you will receive.
- check your ubalt email account, we will send all communications to your university email account.
Financial Aid for Graduate/Law Students
The major source of financial aid for a graduate or law student is the federal Stafford loan. Loan eligibility is based on your course of study, your enrollment level as well as your FAFSA documentation. The loan process is outlined on your MyUB, under Financial Aid. To receive Federal Student Loans, as well as most other types of Financial Aid, students must be enrolled half time (6 credits) in the semester they will be receiving aid.
