How does the Student Assistance Program (SAP) work?
The SAP provides comprehensive, flexible, affordable programs and services to students through both one-one-one direct service or via phone, email, or video conference. Information about all of their resources and services can be found by accessing their website or by calling 1.800.327.2251. -
How can I get personal counseling services?
You may access personal counseling by just dialing 1.800.327.2251. The Student Care Coordinator a masters level clinician who answers the line will spend some time talking with you to determine your concerns and how you would like best to be served. Counseling is offered over the phone, online or in a face-to-face setting. Multiple languages are supported. You may call the service as often as you need to for difference issues. For each concern, you will have up to five free sessions. -
Is there a limit to how many counseling sessions I can have?
For each concern for which you contact the SAP, you have up to five sessions at no cost. -
How do you register for counseling services?
Just by calling 1.800.327.2251 -
Are the services offered 24 hour a day or they only available during normal business hours?
You may call the SAP line at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Specific services, for example, consultation with an attorney, may only be available during regular business and/or early evening hours. -
Are there multiple ways to communicate with counselors, e.g., phone, Skype, messaging?
Yes, you may request to be work with a counselor face-to-face, by phone, email or through video systems such as Skype. -
Are these services free?
Services and resources are free with some time limitation on the number of sessions available for personal counseling (5). -
Do you have to have an appointment to speak with someone?
No, you do not need an appointment to make the initial call. Once a counselor or other individual is identified to help you with your concern, you will need to interact on an appointment basis. -
Will I always have the same counselor?
The individual who answers the initial call my be different, but once assigned a counselor, this person will remain the same.

What does the SAP offer?
The SAP provides a wide range of services to students. They will assist students with scheduling sessions for personal counseling, legal advice (up to 30 minutes per issue), resources with regard to child care and elder care. In addition to direct resources, the SAP portal site offers a wide range of interactive web resources on a variety of topics that can help you navigate life's responsibilities and challenges. -
Who can I talk to if I have concerns about how to use SAP?
The staff within the Office of Student Support can answer any questions and help you navigate the system so you can take full advantage of what is offered. -
Are these services confidential?
All services provided by the SAP are confidential. Nothing is ever shared back to staff or faculty of the University. -
When during the school year are these services offered?
The SAP plan is available at any time throughout the year.
