The Truancy Court Program (TCP) Social Worker is responsible to reach out to the parents/families in the TCP and assist in linking them to necessary services with the primary contacts in each school; to make home visits, telephone calls, unscheduled and scheduled school visits; and to attend parent/student conferences as needed. The social worker supports students daily who are feeling the impacts of stress or overwhelm and provides appropriate referrals for counseling within the school or to outside agencies. The TCP Social Worker is actively involved in selecting TCP schools and students and conducts workshops and training sessions for CFCC Student Fellows, interns, and staff to prepare them to operate the TCP. The TCP Social Worker also participates in all CFCC staff, Student Fellows, and intern meetings, and conducts outreach to community resources for assistance in addressing the needs of families and students participating in the TCP, including facilitating the holiday food basket drives and procuring essential items for TCP students and families. The TCP Social Worker must track and report on all outreach efforts to families, children, and the community for grant reporting purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct assessments of TCP participants’ strength and needs, work with student’s truancy cases utilizing social work expertise to create intervention plans, develop models of prevention/intervention to improve school attendance, provide brief interventions and referrals to appropriate long-term counseling when needed.
2. Coordinate access to community resources to address the needs of TCP families, foster partnerships with outside organizations, attend CFCC, intern, and Student Fellows meetings, comply with mandates related to confidentiality and public safety.
3. Track and report on all duties and attend trainings as required by grant funders.
Education: Master's degree in social work is required; license to practice social work and LCWS is preferred.
Experience: Two years’ experience as a social worker working with juveniles, schools, family court, etc. is required. One year experience practicing social work in Baltimore City Public Schools; understanding of the underlying reasons for students’ truancy; familiarity with truancy programming within Baltimore City Public Schools; understanding of Baltimore City resources for youth and families is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of human behavior and performance and developmental issues relevant to school attendance and success; complex problem-solving skills to identify problems and implement solutions; critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems; strong case management skills; and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for a given situation.
