The University of Baltimore's RLB Library is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as a Reference and Instruction Librarian who works as part of a team providing information literacy instruction and individual reference services to members of the University of Baltimore community. Instruction duties include teaching one to three sections of a 3-credit course on information literacy, leading class-related sessions and workshops related to information literacy both online and in-person, and participating in the reference department’s assessment program. Reference responsibilities include working with patrons who make appointments for research consultations in person and online; providing coverage for drop-in reference hours and our online chat service; and creating online guides to resources using tools like LibGuides.
The person in this position will also work on library initiatives supporting the creation and use of Open Educational Practices, serve as a library liaison to faculty in a designated department or division, represent the library on University and University System of Maryland consortium committees, and promote the library and its services by creating content for RLB Library’s social media accounts. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent degree. Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, and a strong commitment to public service.
Preferred: One year of professional experience in reference, preferably in an academic library setting, and experience in delivering library reference and instruction services online. Familiarity with business, liberal arts and social science resources. Evidence of initiative and innovation in library services.
