Professor of Law
School of Law
Vacancy number 301402
Position Type: Faculty position with full, competitive benefits package
Opens: 09/05/23 Closes: Open Until Filled
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
Position is open until filled, and applications received by September 15, 2023 will receive priority consideration.
The University of Baltimore School of Law is hiring several tenured or tenure-track faculty whose primary teaching interests are legal analysis, writing, and research to teach two sections of the first-year legal analysis and writing course and additional upper-level courses with a writing emphasis in an area of the candidates' choosing. We are also considering candidates who have an interest and expertise in directing the second-semester, adjunct-taught persuasive advocacy course. We are also interested in the substantive areas of criminal procedure, criminal law, evidence and torts.
The University of Baltimore School of Law is proudly a unitary tenure-track faculty, and the successful candidates will enter at the Assistant or Associate Professor of Law level based on experience. The courses to be taught are part of a new strategic curricular initiative that builds on our highly innovative Introduction to Lawyering Skills program and will emphasize small class sizes and the fundamental skills necessary for student success on the NextGen Bar exam and law practice.
Our students and faculty thrive in our diverse, supportive, scholarly community, and while we prefer candidates with some experience teaching legal analysis, writing, and research, we strongly encourage candidates of all backgrounds with a demonstrated interest in teaching in this area, regardless of experience, to apply. Appellate practice experience is valued. Candidates should have a Juris Doctor degree and should send a current CV or resume, along with a cover letter expressing their interest and qualifications to teach legal writing as a primary responsibility.
The University of Baltimore School of Law is part of the University System of Maryland. Its mission is to educate students to become exceptional and principled lawyers; to contribute to local, national and international discourse about the law and legal institutions; and to promote efforts to achieve justice in local, national, and international communities. As an urban law school, we value diversity, academic excellence, and public service, and seek to improve the legal system and the quality of people’s lives. The School of Law prepares its students to assume leadership roles in the public and private sectors in the City of Baltimore, throughout the state of Maryland, across the United States, and around the world.
