Diversity and Inclusion

The University of Baltimore is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive community where all students, faculty and staff feel valued and supported and are able to engage in dialogue through concious questioning and active listening.

Located in the heart of its vibrant namesake city, UBalt embodies the multiculturalism that is critical to its role as an urban anchor institution. The University's commitment to diversity extends to its academic and co-curricular programming, enrollment policies, retention initiatives, hiring processes and purchasing decisions.

Celebrating Diverse Students

We celebrate diversity—in its broadest sense—among our students, who expect and demand a campus community that strives for inclusive excellence.

Office of Diversity and International Services

This campus office aims to build bridges across cultures, supporting international students, scholars, and the entire campus community in their pursuit of academic and personal growth. Through our comprehensive range of services, including cultural programs, intercultural workshops, and advising support, we aim to cultivate an atmosphere of respect, curiosity, and appreciation for the richness that our diverse campus has to offer each student enrolled at UBalt. This office hosts several workshops, field trips and events during the academic year, including the annual Holidays and Traditions Around the World, which invites the campus community to display and share their culture, and International Women's Day, which celebrates the women of UBalt.

The Rosenberg Center for Student Engagement and Inclusion (CSEI)

Through this center, you can get involved, make new friends, gain valuable skills and have fun. CSEI helps students transition to UBalt and get the most out of their college experience. With a number of student organizations and a variety of other student activities, including campus traditions, and community engagement opportunities to choose from, there's never a dull moment at UBalt.

Culture and Belonging Student Organizations

At UBalt, students get to create and grow organizations that reflect their own interests, passions and communities. Join one of our Culture and Belonging-focused groups or reach out to learn about upcoming events.

Diversity Council

The Diversity Council is a space where students can bring not only their feedback or concerns, but also ideas and solutions. It's a space that strives to be proactive, inclusive, and supportive. The mission of the council is to promote diversity and inclusion in The University of Baltimore School of Law community, to react swiftly, thoughtfully, and decisively to emerging issues affecting the School of Law, and to cultivate a welcoming educational environment for individuals of all backgrounds and lifestyles at the law school.  Further, the council celebrates the diversity that exists at the law school and highlights initiatives in place that foster an inclusive community by providing various trainings and events throughout the semester.

University Organizations

Community and Belonging Committee

This committee's mission is to advance the University's diversity goals and strategies and to champion the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts of the University.

These efforts strengthen the professional, intellectual and cultural experience of all members of the UBalt community. Committee members serve as Community ambassadors for faculty, staff and students and facilitators of campus diversity-related news. The committee members meet regularly throughout the year. Some initiatives led by this committee include: a Land Acknowledgment and Diversity Awards for students, faculty and staff.

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Dean’s Action Collaborative (DEIB-DAC)
This Collaborative is charged with two key tasks: convening to discuss and assess The University of Baltimore School of Law community DEIB needs, goals and efforts, with a special focus on talent recruitment, retention, education and support for faculty and staff; and providing the dean with meaningful input and actionable recommendations to enrich law school DEIB efforts and enhance the law school culture and climate for staff and faculty, especially underrepresented groups, and to provide input relating to student needs, goals and efforts.

The DEIB-DAC complements student efforts led by the Diversity Council and the Student Bar Association. Guided by the law school’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Statement, each of these groups works to discuss issues of diversity, inclusivity, belonging and community at our school, and to assess and recommend ways to implement meaningful action to holistically achieve UBalt Law DEIB goals. Learn about the law school's strategic plan.
The DEIB-DAC is led by UBalt Law’s Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, and is composed of three law school faculty members and three law school staff members, selected by the Dean, who are interested in moving forward DEIB goals and efforts. The group meets regularly to perform its work. For more information on the DEIB-DAC, please contact diversity@ubalt.edu.

Office of Disability and Access Services

This office provides reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and works to ensure access to all campus facilities and programs. Services include accommodations for the classroom and campus life, advocacy support for students registered with the office, and executive function support and training.

Second Chance College Program

Since June 2016, the University has provided post-secondary education to incarcerated students prior to release, therefore reducing likelihood of recidivism, and improving outcomes for educational and employment success. UBalt’s program is being offered at Jessup Correctional Institution (JCI), a maximum-security prison for men.

Diversity in Academics

People are seen walking around Mayan ruins in Belize, where a group of UBalt students went on a global field study.

Global Field Studies

Global Field Studies give students a chance to travel abroad for a short period, typically one week to 10 days, while earning course credit. While most trips include some sightseeing, most of the time abroad is spent on academic opportunities, such as attending conferences, factory visits and discussions with local leaders of various industries and fields. All four colleges have hosted experiences, though Merrick School of Business routinely offers three each year. Learn about the Merrick School of Business' upcoming field studies

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate Program

The 12-credit graduate certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is designed for students seeking a broad focus on DEI, both in employee matters as well as in the policies and programs provided by government and nonprofit organizations serving the public.

This certificate aligns with the Master of Public Administration.

An initiative of the Student Government Association, this vibrant space invites the campus and community to relax on benches or at tables amid public art displays. A depiction of the Philadelphia Pride Flag mural runs the length of the alley. Over time, dozens of students and volunteers have added visuals and symbols of inclusion.
