Faculty Professorship Appointments

UBalt Law Faculty are Committed to Scholarship, Teaching, and Service.

 

 

UBalt Law Dean LaVonda N. Reed announced the appointment of several distinguished faculty members to professorships for the 2026–27 academic year. These appointments reflect the excellence of the UBalt Law faculty and their commitment to scholarship, teaching, and service.  

 

Venable and Weich Professorship Appointments 

The Venable and Dean Ronald Weich Professorships are awarded to faculty who have demonstrated extraordinary distinction across one or more of the core areas of faculty contribution—scholarship, teaching, and service—and who have given many years of sustained, meaningful service to the University of Baltimore School of Law. These professorships are made possible by the generosity of donors who established these opportunities through the University of Baltimore Foundation. 

  • Venable Professorship: Professor Gilda Daniels
  • Dean Ronald Weich Professorship: Professor Dionne Koller 
  • Dean Ronald Weich Professorship: Professor Nancy Modesitt 

Dean Gilbert Holmes Professorships in Clinical Theory & Practice 

The Holmes professorship recognizes distinguished contributions to clinical education and practice.

  • Professor Colin Starger 

Dean’s Professorships 

These professorships, established with the approval of President Kurt Schmoke and Provost Ralph Mueller, recognize faculty who have served the University of Baltimore School of Law for 18 or more years and who have demonstrated distinguished achievement across one or more of the core areas of faculty contribution—scholarship, teaching, and service—with a record of sustained contributions that have had a meaningful and positive impact.

  • Professor John Bessler 

The Dean’s Professorships are made possible by the generosity of donors who contributed to the Dean’s Fund through the University of Baltimore Foundation. 

 

These scholarly appointments and the creation and expansion of professorships reflect the collective commitment to advancing Goal 4 of the UBalt Law Strategic Plan 2025–30, which says to “nurture groundbreaking scholarship by creating new faculty professorships, which recognize outstanding scholarship and teaching” (Goal 4, Objective 4.1). 

 

“In the years ahead, we will continue to identify and pursue additional opportunities to create and endow professorships that honor the exceptional work of our faculty. The depth of talent, dedication, and intellectual leadership within our community is something I am grateful for every day,” Dean LaVonda N. Reed stated.
