UBalt experience fulfills a dream for new graduate

Martins Awofadeju is an analytical thinker that makes decisions with clear intentions.

He came to The University of Baltimore for a degree that promised an education as practical as he is.

He sought courses built around digital forensics training, real-world applications and public service. He wanted skills in digital forensics, risk analysis and data protection. He hoped to see where his skills can make a difference outside the classroom.

As he prepares to graduate with his M.S. in Cyber Forensics, Martins can say he got exactly what he hoped for.

“My UBalt experience has gone beyond academics. Through internships and applied learning, I have connected cyber forensics with real-world sectors like housing and public service,” he said. “The support system and practical exposure have prepared me to create solutions that address real societal and security challenges.”

As an international student from Nigeria, Martins sought a college that aligned with his strengths and long-term vision.

He sees his future as atypical for what most imagine when they hear he focused on cyber forensics. He wants to use his skills to resolve common concerns like data security, fraud prevention and infrastructure resilience.

But he isn’t heading toward law enforcement or intelligence work. Rather, Martins has his eye on the real estate sector.

“UBalt provided the environment to develop this direction,” he said. “Through hands-on learning, practical exposure and a strong support system, I was able to move beyond theory and begin applying my knowledge to real-world challenges.”

Along his academic pursuit, Martins immersed himself in the UBalt community. He found his overall experience rewarding in many ways: Martins won one of the coveted Eubie Awards for his academic excellence and contributions to student life.

“The University community is one that gives purpose to effort—where commitment is matched with opportunity, guidance and growth,” he said. “Receiving the Student Services Award was a meaningful recognition of this journey and reflects the kind of environment UBalt creates, one that not only educates but actively supports students in building impact-driven careers.”
