The University of Baltimore recently welcomed transfer advisers from across the region to campus for its first in-person Transfer Advisory Meeting. This is an important step forward in strengthening partnerships that support transfer student success.
Representatives from the Community College of Baltimore County, Baltimore City Community College, Howard Community College and Frederick Community College joined UBalt’s Office of Admission for a day of collaboration, connection, and shared learning. The gathering reflected a shared understanding that strong partnerships are foundational to student success.
“Strong community college partnerships are essential because they allow us to be intentional about how we support transfer students from Day 1,” said Andrea Linthicum, UBalt’s director of admission. “At UBalt, we recognize that access and opportunity are strengthened through relationships, not just agreements. By deepening our engagement with partners, we can better understand student needs, align our efforts, and create more seamless, supportive pathways that move students from enrollment to completion.”
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for advisers to engage with UBalt’s assistant deans, faculty and staff from academic programs and student support offices. Through these conversations, participants gained deeper insight into the transfer student experience, from admission and credit evaluation to academic advising and career preparation.
“Collaboration with advisers is where the real impact happens,” Linthicum added. “When we are actively engaged with community college advisers, we create alignment in messaging, strengthen academic planning, and reduce uncertainty for students. This level of partnership ensures students are making informed decisions, maximizing their credits, and transitioning with confidence into UBalt.”
Advisers also had the chance to explore campus and experience the resources available to transfer students. These interactions are essential in ensuring that community college partners are equipped with the most up-to-date information to guide their students through a smooth and successful transition.
UBalt’s focus on transfer students is intentional and deeply embedded in its mission. “UBalt is a strong destination because we are designed with transfer students in mind,” Linthicum said. “Our academic programs are career-focused, flexible, and relevant to today’s workforce, and our campus culture supports students who are balancing multiple responsibilities. We are committed to meeting students where they are and helping them move forward with clarity, purpose and support.”
At the heart of the event was a shared commitment: building clear, supportive pathways for students pursuing their educational goals. By strengthening these relationships, UBalt and its partner institutions are working together to remove barriers, improve communication and create more seamless transfer experiences.
As UBalt continues to prioritize transfer student success, opportunities like the Transfer Advisory Meeting play a key role in fostering collaboration and aligning efforts across institutions. The University looks forward to continuing this important work with its community college partners and expanding opportunities for future transfer students.
