Tracey Arcabasso Smith will discuss her award-winning documentary film at UBalt on Oct. 28

The film is a deeply personal journey across four generations of a family, as they uncover shared trauma

Relative, an award-winning documentary film about reckoning with abuse, will be presented at The University of Baltimore on Wednesday, Oct. 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Wright Theater in the UBalt Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. The event will include a conversation with the filmmaker, Tracey Arcabasso Smith, U.S. head of creative, content and design of Deloitte Digital and general manager of its New York Studios, moderated by Klein Professor Jane Delury. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts Reading Series, and serves as a kickoff event for the University's new undergraduate program in Multimedia Storytelling.

Smith's work explores the intersection of thoughtful design and impactful storytelling, in the service of creating meaningful, authentic connections for some of the biggest brands in the world, including American Express, Verizon, Netflix, the U.S. Army, MasterCard, Etsy, Nikon, Starbucks, and Levis.

Relative, which won the 2022 Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Feature at the Nashville Film Festival, is a beautifully nuanced, deeply personal documentary that journeys across four generations of an Italian-American family as they uncover their shared experiences around sexual trauma, mostly for the first time, with unapologetic candor. Stirring home movies shot by the filmmaker's grandmother create a cinematic backdrop that weaves individual stories together across the shifting landscape of time.

Both the screening and discussion with the filmmaker are sponsored by the Klein Family Center of Communications Design.
