Commenting in Diverse magazine on a new study on the importance of purpose in a student's understanding about their education, Dr. Lakeisha Mathews, director of The University of Baltimore's Career and Internship Center, says that this recognition has "transformed" campus culture.
"When students understand the 'why' behind their education, they become more engaged learners, make more intentional choices, and graduate better prepared for both career success and lifelong purpose," Mathews said.
The recently updated "College, On Purpose 2.0" report "calls for institutions to move beyond treating career readiness as an afterthought and instead weave career preparation into every aspect of the student experience," the magazine says. "The recommendations come as growing numbers of college graduates struggle to find employment that matches their degree or provides adequate return on investment."
