Biography
Elizabeth (Liz) Butterworth is a Clinical Teaching Fellow at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she co-teaches the Civil Advocacy Clinic. Before joining UBalt, Liz was a Staff Attorney at Legal Counsel for the Elderly in DC, where she supported tenant organizing and represented older adults facing eviction, federal and local voucher termination, dangerous housing conditions, and disability discrimination.
Liz strives to ground her practice in her commitments to movement lawyering and disability justice. She has collaborated with grassroots organizers in DC and Boston, and she has published and presented on strategies for dismantling ableism as a civil legal aid attorney.
Liz graduated from Harvard Law School in 2022. During law school, she spent two years representing tenants and workers as a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Liz also holds an MSc in Comparative and International Education and an MSt in Latin and Greek Languages and Literature from the University of Oxford, where she studied as a Rhodes Scholar. In a previous career, she developed programs to increase access to arts and humanities education and taught in the Division of Classics at Hunter College in New York.
