Gabrielle Fortunato is a Clinical Teaching Fellow for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender (MOPD) Innocence Project Clinic. Gabrielle co-teaches the Innocence Project Clinic Seminar and supervises student attorneys in their representation of individuals wrongfully convicted of crimes in Maryland.
Before joining UBalt Law, Gabrielle was an assistant public defender with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore, where she represented adults charged with all levels of offenses from misdemeanors to murder. Prior to Baltimore, Gabrielle served as a deputy state public defender for the Colorado State Public Defender in Colorado Springs, where she defended hundreds of indigent clients in misdemeanor and felony proceedings. Gabrielle has extensive experience litigating issues at all stages of criminal proceedings, including issues with forensic evidence and unconstitutional searches and seizures.
Gabrielle earned her B.A. magna cum laude in English and Political Science from Elon University and her J.D. with honors from the George Washington University Law School. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and Colorado.
