Much of my scholarly work stems from my research and the professional growth that comes from presenting at local, national, and international conferences. My research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including attitudes and motivation toward learning mathematics, the relationship between self-esteem and math achievement, assessment of learning and study strategies, learning styles and approaches to mathematics, and the history of Arabic Algebra. My research is systematic, guided by a well-defined agenda, and relies on authentic data to inform my findings.
My scholarly activity centers on modifying instructional practices with the goal of improving student learning outcomes. Currently, I am researching curriculum development, student study skills, and academic performance among undergraduates. One of my immediate goals is to extend this research by submitting my work to refereed journals. Looking ahead, my research interests will continue to focus on mathematics education and the pedagogy of mathematics.
My teaching philosophy views education as more than the mere transmission of knowledge to passive recipients. Effective teaching challenges learners to examine the world not only from their own perspectives but also from viewpoints they may never have considered. Students should be encouraged to critically analyze new ideas and apply this knowledge in both their professional and personal lives. This approach helps them recognize that the boundaries of knowledge are limitless and provides an opportunity to rethink and engage with the complexities of education in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that transforms educational experience involves several key strategies. First, employing a variety of instructional techniques—such as collaborative group work, hands-on activities, and technology integration—addresses different learning styles. Second, fostering an atmosphere where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and asking questions is essential. Third, utilizing diverse assessment methods, including formative assessments, helps accommodate various strengths. Fourth, incorporating relevant examples and real-world applications of mathematics allows students to see its value in their everyday lives, enhancing their motivation and engagement. Fifth, implementing inclusive teaching strategies ensures that all students feel welcomed and valued, enriching classroom discussions with diverse perspectives. Lastly, continuously assess and reflect on teaching practices and student feedback to improve the learning environment.
