Dr. Heather Wyatt-Nichol

Dr. Heather Wyatt-Nichol is an Associate Professor in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Baltimore, where she has served since 2008. She teaches across undergraduate, MPA, and DPA programs, with expertise in public administration, organizational behavior, diversity and inclusion, and social equity. From 2011 to 2018, she served as the MPA Program Director and remains active with NASPAA as a site visitor and former Commissioner on the Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation (2013–2016).

Dr. Wyatt-Nichol has published extensively on issues of social equity, justice reform, pedagogy, and work-life balance in academia. Her work has appeared in numerous journals and edited books, and she has presented at national and international conferences. Notable among her contributions is her work advancing social equity in public administration and her scholarship at the intersection of gender, LGBTQ rights, race, social class, and public policy. She is also actively exploring the evolving role of artificial intelligence in both pedagogy and public policy.

Dr. Wyatt-Nichol's professional service includes prior leadership roles in the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), including past president of its Maryland chapter and chair of the Section on Democracy and Social Justice. She also served on the board of the ASPA Section on Women in Public Administration and is currently active with the Maryland Civic Education Coalition.

Prior to her academic career, she worked in both the public and private sectors—including as a program coordinator for a DOJ-funded police leadership initiative at Christopher Newport University and the Newport News Police Department. She provided training through the Certified Public Manager programs in Maryland, Texas, and Virginia, and has served as a facilitator in the Schaefer Center’s NextGen Leaders for Public Service Program.

She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Wilder School at Virginia Commonwealth University, an M.P.A. from Old Dominion University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Christopher Newport University.
