Lou Gieszl is an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore’s Program on Negotiations and Conflict Management.  Lou has taught , numerous graduate-level courses for nearly 20 years, and more recently has been teaching undergraduate conflict management courses for incarcerated students enrolled in UB's Second Chance Program at the Jessup Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison for men. Lou's full-time work is as Assistant State Court Administrator for Programs at the Maryland Judiciary, where he oversees innovative court-related agencies that support mediation and conflict resolution, juvenile and family services, equal justice, problem-solving courts, access to justice, and policy research for trial and appellate courts statewide. Prior to this, Lou served for 16 years as the Deputy Executive Director of the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office, a statewide resource for conflict resolution programs and mediator excellence. A skillful mediator, facilitator, trainer, and conflict consultant, Lou is active in mediation at the national and local level. Lou is a past-President and former Diversity and Equity Officer of the Association for Conflict Resolution, the leading organization for all conflict resolution practitioners. He is also a former-secretary of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation’s board of directors. Lou holds undergraduate degrees in English, Philosophy, and Political Science, and Master of Public Policy, all from UMBC, an Honors University in Maryland. Lou lives in Lutherville with his wife Ellie Hughes, various teen/young adult children, two cats, and one dog.
