Dr. Hudgins is a scholar of European and photographic history, with an interest in gender and the First World War.

Women's history, gender, the history of art and photography, and the history of modern Europe.

Dr. Hudgins is interested in preserving humanistic learning goals in an increasingly pre-professional educational climate. Her other pedagogical interests include hybrid learning, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary curriculum.

"The Gender of Photography" (On-Going)
New book project on the cultural circumstances that rendered women's early contributions to photography nearly invisible; research on the women who bucked that trend, and the social changes that made women photographers acceptable and more visible after 1890.
