Born and raised in Brazil, Regina Bento started her career as a psychiatrist (M.D., Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, 1977), studying the relationship between work and mental health. Interested in learning more about the nature of work and organizations, she went on to pursue graduate studies in administration. After an M.S. in Management (COPPEAD, UFRJ, 1979), she came to the United States for doctoral studies at Harvard and MIT (Ph.D. Sloan School of Management, MIT, 1990).


She is the BG&E Chair and Professor of Management at the Merrick School of Business, University of Baltimore, which she joined in 1991. During sabbaticals and leaves from UB, Regina was twice a Visiting Professor at the Sloan School, MIT (1998, 2007) and served three years as Associate Director of the Christensen Center at the Harvard Business School (2006 through 2009).


Regina’s publications include an award-winning book on decision-making; chapters in research books published by the Harvard Business School Press, Sage, Routledge, Jossey-Bass and others; articles in journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Management Learning, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Management Systems, Information and Management, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Human Resource Management Journal, Communications of the AIS, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Journal of Management Development, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Journal of Management Education, Organization Management Journal, and others, She has also authored award-winning conference papers and business cases, as well as numerous other publications.


Regina has received multiple research and teaching awards, including the USM Regents Award, the highest honor in the University System of Maryland.
