SUPPORTING STUDENTS. CELEBRATING SUCCESS.
Thanks in part to donor funding, the Division of Student Success and Support Services provides purposeful programs and services to students at The University of Baltimore. Your gifts help support students in their journey to successfully navigate their college experience, develop as citizens and critical thinkers, and prepare for careers in an evolving marketplace.
THE LATEST FROM CAMPUS: FALL 2021
At The University of Baltimore, fall has always looked a little different from that “typical college experience” you see in the movies. (And that’s a good thing!)
We skipped the dorms and dining halls in favor of a campus experience that actually works for our students. We have one of the most diverse, determined, hardworking student bodies in the nation, and that means a one-size-fits-all approach just won’t cut it.
We’re in the midst of decision time for many of our students as they weigh whether they can continue their studies this fall. This is a stressful time for them, and it might shock you to learn that for many students the financial barrier can be just a few hundred dollars. A gift of any amount can help a student say “yes” to the University of Baltimore this fall and help turn an empty frame into a diploma.
Your gift today will play a vital role in several key areas as we return to classes in the fall:
Student financial assistance. Many of our students are experiencing financial challenges right now, and we have seen an uptick in requests for scholarships, emergency assistance and financial aid. Last year, the average financial hold for a returning student was just $500. Your support helps remove financial barriers like these for our students.
Emergency assistance is particularly important right now, as more students than ever before are struggling with job loss, unexpected medical bills, housing costs and even food insecurity. You can help reduce the burden for students and ensure they don’t have to give up their dreams of a UBalt education.
Career services and mentoring. Out of necessity, we’ve had to move many of the services from UBalt’s Career and Internship Center to a virtual environment during the last year, including adding more evening and weekend opportunities. The positive feedback we’ve received shows us that we can and should do even more to help meet the unique needs of our students.
With your help, we hope to expand our impact by increasing the scope of our virtual and off-hours services, including counseling, career services, child and elder care, career and academic mentoring, and more. We also want to provide even more opportunities for alumni to get involved and share their expertise with the next generation of students.
Impact beyond the classroom. The majority of our students come from Baltimore and the surrounding region. Through internships, volunteer programs and partnerships with the local community, our students have continued to give back and contribute despite the pandemic. They’d like to do even more. Your gift can help students gain valuable experience working with local nonprofits as we look to expand opportunities for service learning in the coming year.
Every gift makes an impact, and your support makes a profound difference for every student.
Sincerely,
Nicole Marano
