Bio
Darlene Brannigan Smith is a dedicated professional with a commitment to, and vision for, achieving educational excellence. She served as the University of Baltimore's Executive Vice President and Provost (2016-2020) and from was the 11th dean of the Merrick School of Business. Smith also has the distinct honor of being the first University of Baltimore alumna to lead the School of Business. Smith is a respected scholar, publishing in leading academic journals in marketing, including the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. She has been a visiting professor at ESSEC University in France, Peking University in China, and the Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Chile. She has also completed the Management Development Program at the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education. In addition to her academic work, Smith has consulted for such corporations as AEGON, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maryland, McCormick Food, Sheridan Press and Bartlett de Mexico, a firm in the nuclear power generation industry in Mexico.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Marketing Association and Network 2000. She is a graduate of Leadership Maryland and the Greater Baltimore Committee�s Leadership programs. In addition, she was twice recognized as one of Maryland�s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record and was inaugurated into the Women's Circle of Excellence in recognition of her leadership and service to others. Smith currently serves on numerous nonprofit boards including Athletes Serving Athletes and the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, with past service to Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Baltimore(NFTE) and Live Baltimore. -
