Bio
Dr. Ting Zhang is an Associate Professor at the Merrick School of Business and Associate Director of the Jacob France Institute at the University of Baltimore. She holds the Harry Y. Wright Chair in Economics and has been honored with the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award in Scholarship/Research (2023) and the University President's Faculty Award (2024).
Dr. Zhang's research encompasses entrepreneurship, aging, human capital, workforce development, and digitization. She has served as President of the Northeast Regional Science Association, Chair of the North America Regional Science Council, and as an appointed member of the Maryland Governor�s Office of Equal Pay Commission, APPAM Entrepreneurship Policy Faculty Fellow, and previously LERA Junior Faculty Consortium Chair, US Department of Labor research fellow, Kauffman Foundation Dissertation Fellow
Dr. Zhang has published multiple books, many journal articles, and book chapters. Her work appears in journals such as Small Business Economics, Journal of Small Business Management, and Applied Economics. As Principal Investigator, she has secured over $10 million in grants from agencies including the U.S. Departments of Labor, Agriculture, and Education, the Social Security Administration, the Gates Foundation, as well as Maryland Departments of Labor and Social Services.
Dr. Zhang has delivered keynote speeches at events like the Uddevalla Symposium in Europe and at institutions including the University of Lisbon, Johns Hopkins University, and George Washington University, and invited talks at Harvard University, Cambridge University, the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, the House Committee on Small Businesses, and the U.S. National Press Club.
In the editorial realm, Dr. Zhang serves on the boards of journals such as Small Business Economics and Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences, and is an associate editor for the Journal of Urban Management. Her research has garnered attention from media outlets including Forbes, Time, and Bloomberg Businessweek. -
