Interview by WJZ-TV, Prof. Jeffrey Ian Ross of The University of Baltimore's School of Criminal Justice says law enforcement officers and other first responders experience "devastating" trauma in their line of work. In the months following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, four officers who were on the scene that day have committed suicide.
"That was traumatic for many of the officers," Prof. Ross says. "Clearly, the racial epithets and the yelling and the screaming were one factor, but the fact that so many of them were beaten and hit and injured and were both physically and psychologically scarred is devastating for many of them."
