University of Baltimore to Host Commencement Ceremonies, May 25 at The Lyric

The University of Baltimore will hold its spring 2022 Commencement ceremonies for the College of Public Affairs, the Merrick School of Business, and the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences on Wednesday, May 25 at The Lyric, adjacent to the campus. Each school will host its own ceremony, back-to-back, with its own guest speakers, graduating students, and faculty and graduates' processions. Two student speakers, one undergraduate and one graduate, will deliver remarks for each school's ceremony.
The Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences will start the proceedings at 9:30 a.m. Its guest speaker will be Kondwani Fidel, MFA '20, a writer and spoken-word artist declared by NPR to be "one of the nation's smartest young Black voices." Fidel is an assistant professor of English at Coppin State University. He is the author of The Antiracist, Hummingbirds in the Trenches, and Raw Wounds. Morgan Beauchamp, a Legal Studies major, will deliver remarks for the undergraduate class. Casey Gunn, from the Applied Psychology program, will speak for the graduate class.

The College of Public Affairs will begin its ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Its featured guest will be Del. Regina T. Boyce, MPA '14. Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2018, she is a member of several important committees, including Environment and Transportation. She serves as second vice chair of the Baltimore City delegation, and is a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, the Women's Caucus, the Transit Caucus, and is an associate member of the Latino Caucus. Monique Ganser, a Forensic Studies major, will speak for the undergraduate class. Lisa Beatty, from the Human Services Administration program, will deliver remarks for the graduate class.

The Merrick School of Business ceremony, starting at 4 p.m., will feature Georgette Kiser, MBA '04, as its guest speaker. Kiser is an operating executive at The Carlyle Group, where she has served in multiple global leadership positions. Prior to that, she headed enterprise solutions and capabilities functions for T. Rowe Price, and was a key part of the aerospace unit at General Electric. She has served on several non-profit boards, including The University of Baltimore Foundation, and currently for the National Capital Region of Year Up, a tuition-free job training program. Jonathan Fowler, a business administration major with a specialization in Accounting, will deliver remarks on behalf of the undergraduate class. Fiona Ziemski, from the MBA program, will speak for the graduate class.

UBalt President Kurt L. Schmoke will offer remarks at all three ceremonies, and each school's dean will announce the graduates for the president to confer their degrees.
