SIAT Open Computer Lab

Hours: weekdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

NOTE: The Robert L. Bogomolny Library has four machines that include all of the same software as in the open lab; Learning Commons, Room 426.

  • Several labs support programming, network administration, information security, 3-D graphics, and computer game and application development for our Applied Information Technology and Simulation and Game Design programs. The information security lab provides students with access to networking hardware, including network switches, firewalls, intrusion detection systems and VPN servers.
  • Our environmental research lab contains equipment and materials that allow environmental science faculty and students to investigate local ecosystems at molecular, microscopic and organismal levels. On the second floor of the Academic Center, this lab is a designated Biosafety Level 2 research facility and supports both faculty and student research projects.
  • Our general science lab, on the fourth floor of the Academic Center, is outfitted with 24 workstations and provides a hands-on environment for students to put their knowledge into practice.
  • The User Research Labboasts a full range of usability and user-research services to support university and industry research needs. It is available for student research and includes video and audio recording as well as the latest screen-capture and eye-tracking technologies. External orgajizations may rent the space too.
  • The GameLab is a multidisciplinary educational research facility equipped with immersive, visualization and interactive game technologies. It is available for students who want to work on game interface development, test their developed games, work on external projects or develop their portfolio.
  • Unleash your creative potential with our cutting-edge Digital Design Studio, boasting Macintosh workstations loaded with industry-standard software and a vast library of resources, all supported by knowledgeable student staff.

  • The Media Lab is includes dedicated media production and post-production facilities. Our audio studios house a variety of audio playback and recording devices. Multiple control rooms with digital audio consoles with movable faders serve as both control surfaces and inputs for the connected Macintosh computer running Logic or Final Cut Pro software. A sound-proof studio is available for individuals or small ensembles to record in isolation, and the control rooms are both connected to a larger classroom studio for larger groups.
