This 36-credit program requires the following

You may be required to take one or all of these courses  based on an evaluation of your academic background and portfolio. DESN 501 Introduction to Web Development and DESN 502 Introduction to Graphic Design Principles cannot be counted toward the 36 credits required for the degree; DESN 503 Workshop in Written Communication can count under certain circumstances toward the credits required for the degree.

Choose four DESN courses. You can also choose interaction design and information architecture courses, management courses or illustration, photography, graphic design or production courses offered for graduate credit at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Master of Arts in Integrated Design program is to help students develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills to address a wide variety of communication challenges in both writing and design. The curriculum provides students with instruction in concepts, knowledge, and skills in writing and design across media, and offers hands-on learning opportunities in which students integrate writing and design. Graduates of this program are prepared for jobs as graphic designers, writers, directors of communications and/or publications, and a variety of other positions in businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and freelance businesses.
