Publishing Arts is an integral and unique part of the way we think about writing within
the MFA. Students work as writers, editors, designers, book makers and publishers.
Real-World Insights from Publishing Leaders
We offer hands-on classes in book arts, type and design, electronic publishing, book
design and more.
Students create their own books, websites, e-books and blogs.
Editors, agents and publishers visit our program and participate on panels in our
MFA Reading Series.
In their final year, students complete a thesis, which they write, edit, design and
publish as a book. In May, the graduating class gives a reading and sells their books
at a book fair in the UBalt Student Center.
A national literary journal edited and produced by students in the MFA program

other non-fiction, as well as those who create visual art, can have their work published
for an audience that numbers in the thousands.
Skelteris a journal of literary work written exclusively by The University of Baltimore community.
Our world is too loud -- let this journal signal through the static.
Passager(passage + passenger), a literary publisher for writers over 50 challenging perceptions of aging, was founded
in 1990 at UBalt by MFA faculty member Kendra Kopelke. Now an independent 501(c)(3)
