Day of Guest Information

Congratulations to your Graduate! We know you're excited to attend Commencement. Below is some important day of information, please read thoroughly.

  • The ceremony will last approximately two hours. Doors of the venue will open approximately an hour prior to the ceremony. 
  • The Commencement ceremonies are at The Lyric Baltimore. The address of the venue is 140 W. Mount Royal Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201 and it will show up on all address phone applications.

    • Parking will be available at the Fitzgerald Garage for a self-service $7 pre-pay at the gate for students and guests. When guests arrive, the gate machine will display the $7 rate, and they'll be able to pay using a debit or credit card ONLY before entering the garage.  After payment, the machine will issue a receipt, which they will use to exit when they leave.

  • Street parking is available, but do take note of parking regulations, including time restrictions. If you choose to park on the street, please be aware that all cars must be moved from these areas before 4 p.m. Any car remaining after that time may be towed if you or your guest do not follow posted regulations.
  • There are a limited number of persons with disabilities parking spaces available directly outside of the venue and on Mount Royal Avenue. In order to avoid timing issues and to reduce stress before and after the ceremony, it is recommended for guests with difficulty walking to be dropped off outside of the Lyric and the driver to continue over to the Fitzgerald Garage to park.
  • A live stream of the ceremony will be on the YouTube channel at The University of Baltimore - YouTube and will be linked at the Commencement main page.
  • We will be recording the ceremony. All previous commencement videos are available. 
  • Please remember that all guests MUST have a ticket to enter the Lyric. This includes children and infants of all ages.  The ushers will not allow anyone into the building without a ticket – this includes children and infants of all ages.
  • Guests are not allowed to leave their seats, approach the stage, or obstruct the views of other guests to take photos or video during the graduation ceremony. After the ceremony, photography will be allowed outside.
  • No guest or graduate will be permitted reentry after passing through the security check and entering the venue. To prevent difficulty please make sure you have everything you need with you, prior to entering the venue.
  • Please make sure to review the prohibited items list below and plan appropriately. 
    • Noisemaking devices
    • bikes, hoverboards, roller blades or scooters
    • alcohol, food or beverages
    • cigarettes, vapes, and flame or smoke producing items   
    • air horns
    • containers, coolers, flasks or baskets       
    • animals (with the exception of service animals)
    • fireworks
    • any noise amplification device
    • signage of any kind (including "fatheads")
    • bags/purses larger than 22"x12"x8"   
    • weapons (common examples include, but are not limited to aerosol cans, mace. pepper spray, firearms, including CCW permit holders, pocket knives, knives, spiked bracelets, brass knuckles, martial arts weapons, stun guns and chains)
    • balloons
  • Some final reminders:
    • To prevent confusion, graduates and their guests should determine in advance a place to meet after the ceremony that is located outside of the venue.
    • Turn off cell phones or have them in airplane mode. Please refrain from checking cell phones during the ceremony.
    • Note to all students, their families and guests: Please know that every effort is made to ensure that names are pronounced properly at commencement. Students who have names that may be difficult to pronounce are offered an opportunity to spell their name phonetically for the readers and are also able to share the proper pronunciation just prior to the announcement being made.
    • A reception hosted by The Office of Alumni Relations will be held in the Angelos Law Center immediately following each commencement ceremony, approximately 12 p.m. for Graduates and 4 p.m. for Undergraduates.  This reception is for all students, guests, faculty, and staff.
