The Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) is recruiting for an experienced research professional with superior data analysis and analytics experience and communication skills to serve as our Assistant Director of Prospect Research. Your skills and successful experience conducting thorough research will lead you to provide accurate confidential reports on corporations, foundations, and major gift donors and prospects to the President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Major Gift Officers, Board members, and other senior officers of the University. Also, your critical thinking skills will allow you to provide excellent assistance in implementation of the strategic plan for cultivation and tracking of major gift donors and prospects and with maintenance of prospect management. Your outstanding organizational skills will help you monitor and participate in research activities including data collection, evaluation, and analysis; assist in maintaining the Raisers Edge database; and update prospect information and reports in the system. As you manage all of your responsibilities, you will consistently maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth by the Association of Prospect Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Interpret and hold others to such standards when utilizing lA resources or information provided by the Prospect Research office. Your duties will include:
Conduct in-depth prospect research to support prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Synthesize large volumes of often complex financial, legal, and technical information. Compose clear and comprehensible reporting of all necessary and relevant information, meeting the client's needs both in timeliness and content.
Monitor and actively participate in research activities including data collection, evaluation, and analysis using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, proprietary databases, professional organizations, professional contacts, and other methods. Regularly review publications for alumni updates and prospecting.
Assist the Director in maintaining the prospect module of major gift donors and prospects and coordinating input of major donor and prospect data, gift data, call reports, etc. into the Raisers Edge database. Play a crucial role in all facets of prospect management, including working with lA and associated faculty as needed and facilitating the prospect management meetings in the Director's absence.
Research corporate and foundation prospects for new development opportunities as requested. Also work to identify matches between University initiatives and new or existing corporate and foundation programming.
Work effectively with the Director to develop new research methods and techniques, as new software and information resources become available. Assist Director in the construction and implementation of strategic initiatives using knowledge gained through work and educational experience.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in field/discipline related to direct prospect research, tracking, data analysis or related development field required. Relevant experience can be considered equivalent to education on a year for year basis.
Experience: Requires at least 2 years of institutional advancement or other research/administrative translatable experience. Basic knowledge of data analysis and analytics. Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite of products, including advanced Excel querying and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced research training and/or similar educational experience, at least four years of prospect research with management experience, and Raiser’s Edge experience are preferred. Experience in a fundraising campaign environment, preferably in the area of major gift prospect research. Experience in higher education a plus. Knowledge of current philanthropic landscape/ philanthropic history in Baltimore is useful.
Additional Requirements: Ability to write clearly, think critically, and work quickly. Requires excellent organizational, as well as superior skills in both written and oral communication. Ability to utilize independent judgment and decision-making skills. Must be unafraid to ask questions. Ability to manage multi-faceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, exhibiting grace under pressure. Understanding of the range of resources available to prospect researchers including, but not limited to, research software, and internet sources, print directories, and town records. Researcher must be inquisitive and thorough. Experience in prospect research methods and Information retrieval, evaluation and selection of relevant data, and interpretation of financial records and reports, preferably in the context of higher education advancement. Ability to interpret and synthesize large volumes of data and complex financial, legal and technical language into easily comprehensible Information, using multiple resources as needed.
