Achievement & Learning Services at Langsdale Library seeks a Writing Services Coordinator to run the Writing Center and associated writing support services. The Writing Services Coordinator supports UB student writing in every discipline and at every level.
ALS enriches student learning through peer and professional tutoring, a writing center, workshops, supplemental instruction, and academic coaching. ALS is part of Langsdale Library, a primary location for information access, learning, and knowledge creation at the University of Baltimore. Langsdale cultivates knowledge creation within members of campus, the Baltimore metropolitan area, and beyond.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks
• Manage writing center: recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate writing consulting staff, including graduate students and professional consultants. Arrange and provide ongoing professional development in writing center pedagogy and learning theory.
• Manage all aspects of strategic planning and assessment; research alternative funding sources and apply for grants to develop innovative writing support.
• Develop, conduct, analyze, and report assessment data.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration regarding goals for student writing; coordinate and develop services that complement the curriculum and prepare students to meet workplace expectations.
• Develop and supervise innovative projects such as the legal writing center, the graduate writing academy, and writing fellows.
• Manage writing workshops and presentations; determine need and respond to faculty requests; design and deliver presentations or train staff to deliver.
• Allocate funding for student employees.
• Manage staffing and technological enhancements to the Online Writing Lab.
• Monitor national best practices regarding writing center pedagogy/programming and learning theory; participate in relevant professional associations; conduct and support staff in professional development leading to conference presentations/publications.
• Create, identify, evaluate, and disseminate writing resources; represent writing center and Langsdale/ALS to UB and greater community.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Master’s degree in English, writing, composition, education, or related field; training in rhetoric and composition
Experience: Minimum three years of experience developing and coordinating writing center activities, training writing staff, and teaching writing at the college level. Experience working with diverse populations, including multilingual writers. Planning, managerial, supervisory, and assessment experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Graduate degree in rhetoric/composition; training in second language acquisition
Experience: Tutoring experience; learning center experience; grant writing; online service delivery; WAC/WID experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or training. Ability to work occasional Saturdays and evenings
