  • Craig
    Craig Jefferson

    Senior International Admission Counselor

    Hometown: Bowie, Maryland

    Favorite thing about Baltimore:
What I love about Baltimore is its accessibility, and that it is a city for everyone. I can walk nearly everywhere from my neighborhood, whether it be to the harbor, Fort McHenry or an O’s game. And if I get restless on the weekends, I can drive 10 minutes to Patapsco State Park and spend the day hiking along the river. And with D.C. 45 minutes south and New York 2.5 hours north, short getaways are never out of reach.

    Favorite thing about UB:
The students and the location. The school is located in the culturally rich neighborhood of Mt. Vernon, so restaurants, shows and galleries are at our doorstep. And being across from Penn Station means we can serve a diverse group of students from all walks of life.

Best part about being an admission counselor:
The opportunity to meet and interact with students and help them achieve their goals.

    Melissa Nehmer

    Favorite thing about Baltimore:
All the cultural advantages of a large city with a very down-to-earth atmosphere.

    Favorite thing about UB:
The location of its campus! There are so many restaurants, theaters and events in the neighborhood.

Why you do what you do:
Meeting and helping students from all walks of life.

    Jessica O’Keefe

    Assistant Director, Admission

    Hometown: Columbia, Maryland

    Favorite thing about Baltimore:
My favorite thing about Baltimore is that there is always so much to do. I love catching an O's game at Camden Yards, playing beach volleyball at Rash Field in the Inner Harbor and viewing the lights on 34th Street during the holidays. There is always something fun to be a part of.

    Favorite thing about UB:
My favorite thing at UB is when students decorate the Edgar Allan Poe statue in Gordon Plaza. I love coming out of the Academic Center and seeing him wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses or a cap and gown.

Why you do what you do:
The best part of my job is meeting new students every day and helping them to achieve their goal of getting a college degree.

  • Peter
    Peter Weitzmann

    Admission Counselor, Undergraduate Admission

    Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland

    Favorite thing about Baltimore:
My favorite thing about Baltimore is eating a crab pretzel at an Orioles game on a sunny afternoon in May.

    Favorite thing about UB:
My favorite thing about UB is the diverse backgrounds of our students. I love that we have first-year students in their 50s trying to better themselves through education.

Why you do what you do:
Many people can’t access higher education for reasons OTHER THAN their academic ability. My favorite part of being an admission counselor is helping the person who might have given up otherwise.
