Aprile (Greene) Smith, M.A. '14 Publications Design
Graphic Designer, The Bozzuto Group
Aprile Smith, M.A. '14, knew just where to look for a graduate program to enhance her graphic design skills and develop a portfolio of complementary abilities that would add value immediately in the workplace.
"Choosing to enroll in the Publications Design program at UBalt was a major decision in my career and success post-graduation," Smith said describing how her education integrated her coursework with real-world practice. "I worked part-time as a marketing/graphic design specialist for Metamorphosis Plastic Surgery. I was able to double-up on my studies in design in the classroom while perfecting my administrative skills in the office."
After graduating from the program in May 2014, Smith began a professional journey that eventually led her to launch her freelance design business, AprileGDesign, LLC.
"I pushed myself to broaden my professional network, to continue building a freelance brand, and to gain field expertise in design," Smith said. "My passion for design allows my work days to feel like play days. Being able to showcase my talent without feeling bored is very important to me."
Reflecting on her experience at UBalt, Smith was grateful for the opportunity to sharpen her skills with faculty who have shaped the design profession in the city. "I'm still in awe of the knowledge the program afforded me. I learned the true value of time management and discovered a love for photography and the strong commitment it takes to believe in and promote a brand."
On top of her freelance work, Smith is currently a graphic designer for The Bozzuto Group, and previously worked for St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center, Ketchum, Inc., and interned with Global Design Interactive. She is a member of the Sigma Nu Tau Entrepreneurship Society chapter at UBalt.
