Paralegal Specialist, Federal Bureau of Investigation
Hi, I'm Daprena Boyd, B.A. '02, M.S. '05. I am a Baltimore native who started my journey with UBalt somewhat later in life, after my kids were born. I started my educational journey at Dundalk Community College where I received my associate's degree in general studies. I found out UBalt would accept all of my credits, so I promptly applied to continue my education. I received my bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2002, but no, I was not done yet. I was already working for the State of MD Department of Social Services, so why not be all I can be in that field? I received my degree in Human Services Administration in 2005, though, I did not continue in that line of work.
I must say my educational journey with UBalt has been both challenging and rewarding. It was at UBalt that I was able to obtain my current employment, working for the Department of Justice at one of their three-letter agencies. I happened to go to a career fair and the Feds were there to encourage students to apply for any jobs they felt qualified for and I did. A year or so later, I was offered a federal job with great benefits and I have not looked back since. I have made career choices, changed positions and have continued to move up the ladder. Can I break through the glass ceiling? To be continued...
At UBalt, my school, I have met so many wonderful and successful friends, students and faculty. It is at UBalt where I devote my time and energy to the CPA Advisory Council, volunteer for Community Service Day, network and mentor students, and attend the various fun functions that UBalt sponsors. "UB is my school. It's in my heart."
