James B. Scott, Jr., B.A. '10, M.A. '12,
Administrative Officer at Baltimore City Department of Social Services
At UBalt, we offer a collegiate experience that’s different by design to create a flexible and supportive atmosphere for students. That’s how James B. Scott, Jr., B.A. '10, M.A. '12, knew he found the perfect fit.
"I was always interested in the law, and UBalt offers an undergraduate degree in Jurisprudence (Pre-law). At that time, I just started working full-time, and the courses are offered at night in order to cater to working students. So once I completed my Associate of Arts degree at Baltimore City Community College, I had the opportunity to attend the University of Baltimore. It turned out, UBalt was the perfect fit for me."
Working full-time while completing his undergraduate degree allowed James to realize that he had another opportunity to enhance skills in legal research, legal analysis, and critical thinking.
"After receiving my bachelor's degree, I decided to continue strengthening my legal and critical thinking skills in the Master of Arts in Legal and Ethical Studies program. This program allowed me to perfect my craft," which gave James the opportunity to work at the Maryland District Court in Baltimore County, Baltimore City Circuit Court, Baltimore City Department of Social Services, Baltimore City Public Schools, and for the United States District Court on Capitol Hill.
The highlight of his time spent at the University of Baltimore was the support and guidance he received from his professors.
"The majority of students in my classes also worked full-time. My professors understood the unique work-life balance we faced and provided support accordingly. They always worked with us and made sure each of their students succeeded."
