Verlando Brown, M.S. '15
University Engagement Coordinator, Thread
Verlando Brown has his master’s degree in Human Services Administration from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Psychology from Towson University. Brown currently works at the non-profit Thread as the University Engagement Coordinator. Thread is a social movement about building relationships and eradicating social isolation across lines of different communities.
At Thread, Brown recruits and builds relationships with new volunteers through one of their university partners, Towson University. He inspires people to get involved in Thread and make a difference.
"I love my job because I get to be able to network and build relationships with others, which I love, and tackle issues facing communities while creating a better Baltimore," says Brown.
Prior to his time at Thread, Brown held various roles in the non-profit and higher-education sector focusing on first-generation student programming.
"My experience at the University of Baltimore was absolutely amazing. I truly loved my graduate program because it taught me how to be an effective leader in my own community. The level of care, support and push that my professors provided, prepared me to get to where I am today in my career," says Brown. "I love the fact that at UBalt you don't just learn the materials from the textbooks but you also apply what you learn into the real world. Experience is the best teacher. I'm very grateful of the education and support from both faculty and staff I received at UBalt. I felt as though I wasn’t a social security number but that they knew who I was, and I mattered."
Brown can be found most days reading, hanging out with friends, exercising, and watching Netflix and Amazon channels.
