TAKE FIVE with Betsy Diamant-Cohen, D.C.D. '05
Owner, Mother Goose on the Loose, an early-literacy program
6 AM
I wake up in a hotel in Lititz, PA, where I will be presenting a Mother Goose on the Loose training workshop for children's librarians. I start off the day with a quick swim in the hotel pool.
8:30 AM
Helping to set-up at Luthercare, where the training workshop will take place.
9:30 AM
The training begins with a hands-on explanation of the way learning takes place in the brain: "Make your hand into a neuron."
10 AM
A group of children from a local preschool comes to a training. They sit in the middle of the circle of tables, and participate in a 30-minute Mother Goose on the Loose program that I present for them. The librarians observe how quickly engaged the children become and how enthusiastically they participate in the activities.
3:45 PM
At the end of my workshops, there's a portion where the librarian participants make a flannel board piece and then present a rhyme to everybody in the group. This is one of the final presentations of the day.
