The Electricians serve an integral function for Physical Plant, Facilities Management, and The University of Baltimore by providing outstanding service to the community by servicing the campus electrical needs. The Physical Plant department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of over 1 million square feet in 13 buildings across 11 acres. The Electrician is responsible for performing electrical work at the journeyman level. This position, under general supervision, installs, maintains and repairs equipment and facilities involving electrical circuits carrying less than 13,000 volts. This position is considered an essential position as defined by the University System of Maryland, designated as vital to the operation of the facility, and is required to report to work regardless of the existence of an emergency condition. This position also promotes the value of diversity, safety, and environmental consciousness in the workplace.
This position is considered essential personnel. Essential personnel provide services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the University, ensure continuity of key operations, and maintain and protect University property. This position may be asked to work evenings and on weekends, and must be available to respond and return to the campus in the event of an emergency and during inclement weather.

Job Duties:
Performs specified electrical work; installs, repairs or maintains electrical panels, circuit breakers, fuses, wiring, switches, conduits, raceways, and lighting systems. Diagnoses problems, tests electrical circuits, repairs & replaces parts for electrical systems, apparatus, electrical and electronic components of building systems and equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications and panels.
Tests continuity, voltage, amperage, and ohms of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components; observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation and/or replacement.
Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, and specifications applicable to building electrical system repairs, installation modifications, or remodeling consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Ability to recommend appropriate modifications or additions to plans.
Connects and repairs power supply wires to machines and equipment, and the cables and wires between machines and equipment.
Performs maintenance and repairs to building lighting systems including LED, fluorescent and incandescent lighting fixtures, bulb replacement, ballasts, wiring, conduit boxes and tubing, switches.
Performs work orders prepared by CMMS, prints, writes work status & results, completes, and enters work results in CMMS. Prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the electrical trade. Cleans work area upon completion of project.
Required Qualifications:
Four years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade. Hold a valid & current Maryland county Journeyman electrical license or equivalent. This position is considered essential personnel. Essential personnel provide services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the University, ensure continuity of key operations, and maintain and protect University property. This position may be asked to work evenings and on weekends, and must be available to respond and return to the campus in the event of an emergency and during inclement weather. Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Maryland DLLR Master electrician license.
Required Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the theory, principles, methods and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and apparatus carrying less than 13,000 volts. Thorough knowledge of and skill in basic mathematics including area, volume, weights, and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the electrical trade; of electrical codes, Underwriters Rules for wiring and installation. Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade including testing equipment such as ohmmeters, battery and buzzer and oscilloscopes. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Ability to prepare written reports and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery. Ability to work from lifts, ladders and scaffolding. Ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs. Ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery. Ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions and to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Ability to work with others, as well as independently with little direction. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to complete logs, work order forms and prepare reports.
