Incumbent performs a variety of tasks across all service lines within the department, working independently in Mail Services and in the Parking and Bee Card office to the extent of decision making authority, without supervision present. Picks up mail at the post office, accurately sorts mail, distributes mail and applies postage. Position interfaces with students, faculty and staff and provides customer service by email, in person appointment, or virtual appointment to make a Bee Card, distribute a package, assist with parking, or some aspect of an event. Assists with space reservations and may arrange for basic furniture placement at events and may coordinate moves and work orders. Prepares recurring and custom reports, and other duties as assigned within the scope of this position to support the departmental mission.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
Mail Services
Pick up mail at the U.S. Post Office, accurately sort and make mail available to customers up to twice per week. Accurately sort interoffice mail and make available to customers, and apply postage to outgoing mail and packages up to twice per week. Use package tracking software to receive, identify and distribute packages. Serves as primary contact for packages to be picked up at the Mail Room. Stays current on postage rates, and calculates most cost efficient shipping method to assist customers in planning. Provide excellent service to assist customers as needed to resolve questions and special mail situations, especially during extenuating circumstances such as a pandemic. Clean the postage machine regularly and work with the vendor to resolve maintenance issues as needed up to $500. Order and install postage supplies such as ink cartridges.
Auxiliary Support
Assist with events and reservation entry for events that are appropriate for Auxiliary to handle. May contact moving company and manage moves that are appropriate for Auxiliary to handle. Is empowered to contact vendors and contractors to resolve routine maintenance matters up to $500 without contacting supervision, but will always notify supervision of problems. Clean the Bee Card equipment, load blank cards and new print cartridges and troubleshoot equipment such as gate arms and overhead doors. Prepare routine and custom reports. Place work orders, assist with special events and projects. Assist with events by checking on the onsite event and setting up 1-2 tables and less than 10 chairs.
Customer Facing Service
Has the authority to work directly with students, faculty and staff to resolve customer matters according to departmental policies and procedures usually by appointment in person, by phone, email, video conference or any mode of communication. Assist with Bee Card production, parking, events and persons who visit the office in person.
Required Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience:
Three years of experience providing customer service.
Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Associate’s degree
Preferred Experience:
Four years of providing customer service. Experience in high touch customer service, higher education, and in a mailroom.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to deliver excellent customer service verbally and in professionally worded grammatically correct writing, with a variety of customers, including in challenging circumstances. Ability to accurately sort and process mail, to lift and use moving equipment to transport packages weighing up to 70 pounds, to operate standard office equipment and postal services machines, to perform extensive standing and walking. Effectively use Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and efficiently communicate information to internal and external parties.
*A valid Maryland driver’s license with a clean driving record and a background check will be required.
