The University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business has announced Michael Chukwunyere Kemakolam as the recipient of the prestigious Dean's Award, recognizing his exceptional academic achievements, outstanding leadership, and significant contributions to student engagement throughout his time at the University. Kemakolam, who consistently earned Dean's List honors, was lauded for his proactive involvement in various student organizations and his dedication to fostering a vibrant campus community. His selection for the Helen P. Denit Honors Program further underscores his commitment to academic excellence and professional growth.
Kemakolam's leadership roles have been extensive and impactful. As Vice President
of the Student Government Association (SGA), he effectively advocated for student
interests and collaborated with university administrators to implement positive changes
on campus. His tenure as President of the African Student Union (ASU) saw a remarkable
35 percent increase in membership through his initiatives promoting cultural awareness
and inclusivity. Additionally, Kemakolam served as Treasurer of the History Club,
managing the organization's finances, and as a Leadership Board Member for the Society
for Human Resource Management (SHRM), contributing to professional development opportunities
for his peers. Beyond formal positions, he also played a key role in revitalizing
the campus gym by organizing activities and successfully petitioning for extended
operating hours.
His commitment extends beyond the university campus into the wider Baltimore community.
His dedicated service through his church includes assisting with maintenance and leading
the youth organization. Notably, his volunteer work distributing pantry items to the
elderly has provided him with meaningful connections and opportunities to offer support
and companionship. Through both his university involvement and community service,
Kemakolam has consistently demonstrated a strong sense of compassion, leadership,
and a genuine dedication to uplifting others, making him a truly deserving recipient
of the Dean's Award.
Kemakolam also completed the Ratcliffe Entrepreneurship Fellows program this year.
Selecting the Dean's Award is a highlight of my year, a testament to the extraordinary impact our students have, both academically and in service to our community. While the decision is never easy, Michael's exceptional achievements truly distinguished him this year.
