The RLB Library periodically evaluates electronic resources (databases, online journals,
etc.) for their cost-effectiveness and relevance to student needs. After analysis,
subscriptions to the databases listed below were not renewed. Similar content is available through other databases or as open-access. Effective July 1, 2025, access to the listed databases has ended.
Recommendations for possible alternate resources are listed with each database title.
Many of the alternate resources can be found on the library’s A-Z List of databases.
- Britannica ImageQuest (Encyclopaedia Britannica)
- There are free stock photo websites which allow non-commercial use—be sure to check
their license summary before downloading images. These sites include:
- Communication Source (EBSCO)
- Environment Complete (EBSCO)
- Kanopy (BASE subscription)
- You can access films licensed by the library for faculty requests (see the research
guide “Streaming Video Resources at the RLB Library” https://ubalt.libguides.com/streaming).
- Coming soon! On August 1, access to Academic Video Online (AVON), another streaming
video platform, will be available to all UBalt students, staff and faculty.
- You can access Kanopy films at the Enoch Pratt Free Library https://www.prattlibrary.org/ if you are a Maryland resident or at your local public library if they offer Kanopy.
- Science Reference Source (EBSCO)
- Statistical Abstract of the U.S. (ProQuest)
If you cannot find or access what you need, you can:
- Use the RLB Library’s interlibrary loan service to obtain articles or books from other
institutions.
- Check with your local library to see if they offer access to relevant resources.
- Search for open-access or government databases that cover similar subjects.
- Consult with a reference librarian for alternate resources.
