'It was hard workbut worth it'

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the official accreditation organization for The University of Baltimore and hundreds of other college campuses both here and abroad, has reaffirmed UBalt's accreditation. A notice of the decision was posted on MSCHE's website on June 25.

MSCHE's announcement follows a year-long series of campus visits, studies, and analyses conducted by its staff, in cooperation with a team from the University co-led by Catherine Andersen, special assistant to the president, and Dan Gerlowski, interim dean of the Merrick School of Business. UBalt's team provided extensive amounts of data regarding the institution's academic profile, its impact in the community, its effectiveness as a provider of post-secondary undergraduate and graduate education, and more.

Following MSCHE's site visit to the campus in March, UBalt President Kurt L. Schmoke told the community: "Our faculty, staff, students and administrators engaged with MSCHE representatives on a wide range of topics, and we were proud to tell our story and let them know everything we'd like to do to strengthen the institution and enhance our educational effectiveness as we head into our second century.

"[O]ur MSCHE committee studied the institution from every possible angle. It was hard work—but worth it. I believe that what we've recognized about ourselves will make for a better UBalt for years to come. My thanks to everyone involved. It was simply beautiful to behold."
