FAFSA Summary

Due to the passing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Simplification Act, the FAFSA is changing for the 2024-2025 aid year to make it easier for students and their families to submit. The FAFSA is now available.

There will be fewer questions on the FAFSA to answer, and fewer requirements overall. Additionally, tax information will be retrieved through direct data exchange with the IRS. The U.S. Department of Education implemented these changes to expand federal aid eligibility and simplify the FAFSA process.

Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 Semesters

Students who plan to attend the University of Baltimore during an upcoming Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Summer 2025 semester should complete their FAFSA form as soon as possible in order to maximize the amount of financial aid you may receive.

Here are some important deadlines related to your FAFSA form:

  • March 1st, 2025, Maryland Higher Education Commission State Scholarship Deadline
  • March 1st, 2025, UBalt priority deadline for consideration of UBalt institutional awards

The 2024–2025 FAFSA form requires 2022 income and tax information.

Avoid Processing Delays
Please fill out the FAFSA form carefully. Mistakes on the form can hinder the processing of your financial aid. Therefore, be sure to take your time and enter information—including your name, date of birth, social security number, etc.—correctly and completely.

Identification Requirements

  • Social Security number
    • It must be entered exactly as it appears on your Social Security card
    • Include suffixes and your middle name/initial
  • Driver’s license number
    • Provide if you have a valid driver’s license
  • Alien registration number
    • Provide if you’re an eligible non-citizen

Contributor

    • A contributor refers to anyone who is required to provide information on a student’s FAFSA, including the student, the student’s spouse, a biological or adopted parent, or the parent’s spouse. Being a contributor does not imply responsibility for the student’s college costs.  
    • The student will need the contributor’s name, date of birth, Social Security Number (SSN), and email address to invite them to complete the required portion of their FAFSA.  
    • Contributors will need to provide personal and financial information on their section of the student’s FAFSA. They will only be able to see and complete their own specific sections of the FAFSA.  
    • All Contributors must provide consent to have their federal tax information transferred directly from the IRS to the FAFSA. If consent is not provided by all parties, the student will not be eligible for federal financial aid . In previous years, transferring IRS data was optional; moving forward, it’s required.  

Other Requirements

  • Birth dates of everyone you are listing on your FAFSA
  • Untaxed income or investments
    • If this applies to you, gather all related records
  • Make sure you have an FSA ID
