A proud UBalt Law alumna, Senior Associate Dean Joy Sakellaris Gaslevic graduated magna cum laude in 1999. She is responsible for the administration of the law school with approximately 100 faculty and staff members, a student body of more than 700 students, and a budget of over $26 million. In her role as a senior member of the Dean’s leadership team, she is integrally involved with the overall direction and operation of the law school and assists the Dean in advancing law school strategy, priorities, and interests—creating structure and process, cohesion and alignment across divisions and functions. She also represents the Dean and the law school in various capacities.
Senior Associate Dean Gaslevic directly oversees law school admissions, finance, administration, career services, external relations, the assistant to the dean, center staff directors, and culture and climate initiatives. She leads strategic planning, the reaccreditation of the law school, a variety of risk management, compliance, and personnel matters, and is called upon to launch key strategic initiatives such as the development of new programs and to identify and pursue alternative funding sources to enhance revenues. Senior Associate Dean Gaslevic serves on law school and other committees and works with a range of internal and external partners to accomplish law school goals.
Senior Associate Dean Gaslevic began her career in higher education at the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, where she was appointed assistant attorney general and senior counsel for advice in the Higher Education Division and represented various University System of Maryland clients, including the University of Baltimore. At the Attorney General’s Office, she also worked with University System of Maryland leaders to advise on and create system-wide policy.
At Johns Hopkins University, Senior Associate Dean Gaslevic served as assistant vice provost and Title IX coordinator and later interim vice provost for institutional equity. In her roles, she helped build and lead the office and team dedicated to preventing and addressing discrimination and harassment and ensuring compliance with equal opportunity laws across Hopkins’ campuses worldwide. Gaslevic also served as the Hopkins representative on, and held a leadership role within, the National Academies of Science Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education and served on the Association of American Universities Advisory Board on Sexual Harassment in Academia.
Directly before joining UBalt Law, Senior Associate Dean Gaslevic served as senior counsel at Husch Blackwell, advising higher education clients across the country on student and faculty affairs, compliance, policy development, training, and issue/case management.
