Dr. Jan L. Williams, a tenured, Full Professor of Accounting at the Merrick School of Business, takes pride in preparing the next generation of CPAs and business leaders. Since joining the faculty at University of Baltimore in 2006, she has taught financial accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Williams' research focuses on accounting ethics, taxes, and financial reporting improprieties, which she has published articles in academic and practitioner journals. Her service to the academic and professional communities, includes American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Academic Executive Committee Chair, AICPA Effective Learning Strategies (ELS) Awards Task Force Chair, AICPA Foundation Scholarship Committee, Mid-Atlantic Region President and Diversity Section Secretary of the American Accounting Association (AAA), Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA) Emerging Professionals CPA Coach, and Editorial Review Board of the Global Journal of Accounting and Finance. In 2019, she was appointed as the education member to the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy by Governor Larry Hogan; and served as chair of the Board from 2024 - 2026. In her professional career as a Certified Public Accountant, prior to entering academia, she worked as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP and an accounting manager for Kirschner Medical Corporation.

Dr. Williams has received numerous awards, including an esteemed University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Public Service, Henry C. Welcome Fellowship from the Maryland Higher Education Commission; Outstanding Educator Award by the National Association of Black Accountants; Hoffberger Ethics in Teaching Award, Yale Gordon Chair for Distinguished Teaching, T. Rowe Price Teaching Award, Dean Daniel Costello Service Award, Lockheed Martin Professorship, and MBA Class of 1983 Impact Professorship-Learning Centered Excellence by the Merrick School of Business; Women to Watch Experienced Leader Award and Max Teichmann's Chair Award by the MACPA; and recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Making a Difference: A Selection of Graduate Degree Holders and Their Contributions to the Public Good.
