Preparing your Thesis, Dissertation, or Project

Before finalizing your work, discuss the formatting with your adviser or program director to ensure you are in accordance with program standards. Be aware of any important deadlines, as it may take a few days for the library submission process.

Once you have completed your work, you will need to submit a digital copy to the library via MD-SOAR, and if you are a doctoral student, also submit to ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global.

If you are submitting a thesis or dissertation, go to Part A. If you are submitting a Public Scholarship Project, go to Part B.

Part A. Submitting Your Thesis or Dissertation to MD-SOAR (KnowledgeWorks@UBalt) and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global

1Submit your electronic copy to KnowledgeWorks@UBalt, an open-access UBalt repository which is part of the Maryland Shared Open Access Repository (MD-SOAR). The repository allows students and faculty to publish their scholarly and creative works for other researchers to access.

Here are instructions for submitting your thesis or dissertation to KnowledgeWorks@UBalt.

2.  If you are a doctoral student, please also submit your dissertation to ProQuest Digital Dissertations, which is a national, searchable database for other researchers to use and cite.

  • Upload your dissertation as well as any supplemental files (video, recordings, etc.) to ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. Instructions are available on their website. The abstract and keywords that you placed in KnowledgeWorks@UBalt can also be entered into ProQuest.
  • (Note: if you want to include a URL to a website you’ve created, there is no way to upload one, as it is not a file. However, you can create a word document with a screenshot of your website and type the URL on the documentUpload it as a PDF in the Supplemental Files section.)

3.  After completing your submission, fill out the Verification of Submission form and email to library staff member Tim Commo (tcommo@ubalt.edu). This form will be signed by library staff and emailed to your degree advisor verifying your submission.
