Lakeisha Mathews, Ed.D

Director

Lakeisha leads the career center staff in building bridges between employment and education. She is a certified professional career coach, certified professional resume writer, and certified global career development facilitator.  As an educator with 10+ years of experience in higher education, Lakeisha’s experience includes residence life, new student orientation, academic advising and career services. Lakeisha likes to say that she has helped students gain admission into college, remain in college and exit college—with a job!  A Baltimore native, Lakeisha currently serves as co-advisor to the National Society of Leadership & Success (NSLS), the largest student group on campus.  She also serves on the NSLS National Advisor Advisory Board and the Maryland Career Consortium Directors Board.  Lakeisha is a past president of the Maryland Career Development Association and has attained numerous awards and recognition from both national and local organizations. Lakeisha holds a B.A in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park and a M.S. in Human Resources from Towson University.  She is currently pursuing a Ed.D in Higher Education Innovation from Wilmington University.  In 2016, Lakeisha co-authored a book for the Association of Training and Development called Find Your Fit.

Lana Farley

Associate Director

Lana Farley brings over 12 years of experience in higher education and career development, currently serving as Associate Director in the Career and Internship Center. In this role, she leads the employer relations team, overseeing recruitment programming and events, the off-campus work-study program (JLD), data analysis, and marketing initiatives. She’s also a certified Strengths and MBTI facilitator, often found in classrooms delivering interactive sessions on leadership and personal growth.

Lana is a dedicated advocate for equity in education and workforce development. Her policy and research interests include expanding access to paid internships, integrating career readiness into K–12 education, supporting students from limited-income backgrounds, and creating pathways for justice-impacted students.

A respected leader in her field, Lana serves as President of the Maryland Career Development Association and sits on the boards of both the Maryland Counseling Association and the National Career Development Association.

She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Salisbury University, an M.A. in Human Sciences from Hood College, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Morgan State University.

LA-TOYA GOMEZ, MBA

Career Manager, Merrick School of Business

La-Toya Gomez serves as the Career Manager for the Merrick School of Business. As a native New Yorker, La-Toya brings 7+ years of Career Counseling experience in Higher Education. Whether it's welcoming first-time students to the college world in New Student Orientation, working with Advising helping students find a career path for their major, or congratulating them on all their hard work and accomplishments at graduation, it’s all in a day’s work for her.  She loves to help students excel, explore and build on their skills. La-Toya holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Metropolitan College of New York and a Bachelors of Business Administration from Berkeley College. She served as a Board Member for the Berkeley College Alumni, connecting alumni mentors to current students. As a board member of the New York State Career Development Association she was able to assist in putting together virtual conferences to keep career counselors and higher education professionals up to date on changes in the career world. La-Toya mentored many of her students, served as a Faculty Advisor to student clubs, and was chosen for the “Student Centered” award by her peers. She looks forward to bridging the gap between MSB students and their careers, and is excited about the new relationships that will spring forth.

Matthew Johnson, MA

Career Specialist, College of Arts & Sciences
Matthew Johnson returns for his second stint at The University of Baltimore, as the Career Specialist for the College of Arts & Sciences. With 9 years of experience in higher education, eight in career services, he comes back from the Chicagoland area after five years with newly acquired skills in career services, alumni relations, and advancement/development. He is particularly excited by the prospect of bringing new perspectives, experiences, and abilities to the UBalt Community. Whether helping athletes and performing artists with the mental game, working with businesses to optimize performance, or working with students to discern career paths, the goal remains the same; his vocation for helping — preparing students to strive for their ultimate career goal while staying flexible and open to any unexpected opportunities that may come their way.
 
Matthew holds a Bachelors of Art in Psychology with a concentration in Social Psychology from Bucknell University, and a Masters of Art in Psychological Studies with a concentration in Sport & Exercise Psychology from Seton Hall University. He aspires to obtain his doctorate in the near future to continue his vocational exploration.
 
He hopes to promote a lifetime of career success, with every student he comes in contact.

Alexa Hinds, MBA

Career Specialist, College of Public Affairs
Alexa is a career development professional committed to empowering students to become intentional, confident managers of their career journeys. She will serve as a Career Specialist supporting the College of Public Affairs, partnering with students to translate academic experiences into meaningful career pathways through coaching, career planning, experiential learning, and employer engagement. Alexa brings a values-driven, student-centered approach grounded in the mission of the University of Baltimore Career and Internship Center.

As a certified coach, her practice emphasizes holistic career development, strengths-based exploration, and practical strategies aligned with the UB Career Cycle. Alexa holds a B.S. in Sociology from Northeastern University, an MBA in Healthcare Management, and is currently completing her M.S. in Human Resource Management at Western Governors University. Her background enables her to effectively support students pursuing careers in public service, healthcare, nonprofit, and human services fields while fostering trust, connection, and purposeful career growth.

Cindy Baez

Job Development Recruitment Specialist
Cindy Baez is the coordinator of the University’s Job Location and Development (JLD) Program. Cindy is a native New Yorker and has worked with underrepresented families and youth in New York City and Baltimore City. Cindy has extensive experience in helping families thrive and dream bigger through coaching, case management, and education. Cindy also has 4 years of experience in early childhood development and attachment research, and her contributions have helped expand home-visiting services for families in Baltimore City. Cindy harnesses the power of community by developing and maintaining meaningful partnerships between schools, churches, and local government to better serve us all and to create a sense of belonging. Cindy will use her community building skills to place JLD students with transformative internships that will help them achieve their highest potential while supporting their community. 

Cindy holds a B.A. in Psychology from Stony Brook University and looks forward to beginning a Master of Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Baltimore in the Fall of 2026.

Wardha Moriam

Graduate Assistant, Marketing and Design

Wardha Moriam is the Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Design at the Career and Internship Center at the University of Baltimore. She is currently in the first year of her MA in Integrated Design, expected to graduate in May 2027. Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Wardha brings a rich international perspective and over six years of experience in the design industry, with a strong emphasis on UX, branding, and storytelling.

At CIC, Wardha leads design initiatives that enhance student engagement, including the development of strategic marketing campaigns and coordinating LinkedIn headshot photoshoots for professional development. Her work helps shape the visual identity of CIC while supporting student success and career readiness through thoughtful, inclusive design.

Wardha is driven by the belief that design should be an experience we live in—not just something we see. Her vision is to create design that is accessible, emotionally resonant, and human-centered. She’s especially passionate about how design intersects with storytelling and systems thinking to bring real-world impact.

Outside of work, Wardha finds joy in art, books, and all kinds of creative exploration. She has also played volleyball, table tennis, and archery, and loves staying active and engaged in her community.
