Ven Sriram’s bachelor’s degree is in Economics and his and master’s in Management, both from India. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park in the US. He has been a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal and Turkey and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre of International Studies at Cambridge University, UK. His research and consulting interests focus on issues relating to marketing and management in emerging markets, and ethnic and minority entrepreneurship. His co-authored book, Drivers of Global Business Success, was published by Palgrave Macmillan. He has published over 25 articles in leading academic and practitioner journals and has presented his research at several national and international conferences. His current research examines urban business start-ups in the US with a view to developing a comprehensive understanding of the drivers, skills and resources that lead to their success as well as an assessment of the challenges faced by these entrepreneurs. This is part of a global project with parallel efforts already underway in Central America and Africa. It is anticipated that the outcome will be an identification of training and resources needs that will enable motivated small entrepreneurs to transition to medium sized enterprises in regions where the job-creation contributions of such businesses are vitally needed. He is on the roster of the Fulbright program as a Senior Specialist and has consulted with small businesses in the US and abroad on business strategy, marketing and customer relationship development, business planning and problem solving. He has created instructional tools for developing strategic and analytical skills and has trained business owners, managers and executives in Nepal, Turkey, Argentina, Mexico, Ghana and elsewhere globally.
