About the UBalt Law Alumni Association Board

The UBalt Law Alumni Association (UBLAA) Board serves as the body of alumni charged with planning and implementing engagement and outreach efforts to help keep law alumni connected to and supporting the law school. The Board oversees UBLAA efforts and serves as an extension of the law school’s alumni engagement pursuits.

Purpose

The Board exists to:

  • Strengthen and enhance relationships between alumni and the law school.
  • Plan and implement alumni programming that provides social and professional engagement opportunities (e.g., networking, volunteer, and philanthropic opportunities for alumni to connect and serve).
  • Inform the law school external relations team about needs, concerns, and general feedback from alumni.
  • Make recommendations and support programs that encourage alumni-law school engagement.
  • Encourage alumni to support the law school both financially and through volunteer opportunities.

Board Member Expectations

Responsibilities of UBLAA Board members include:

  • Representative of the School of Law – Board members serve as advocates of the law school throughout the legal community and as such, must act in an appropriately professional manner at related functions and events.
  • Meetings – Board members are expected to attend all regularly scheduled Board meetings. Should a Board member be unable to attend a meeting, they must email the law school Department of External Relations in advance of the scheduled meeting.
  • Committee Placement – Board members will sit on at least one committee of the Board. Committee members must attend committee meetings and engage actively in committee activities to meet committee goals.
  • Events – As representatives of the law school, board members are expected to maintain a strong connection to the law school, and this includes attending events –or volunteering in programming-- hosted by the law alumni association, various law school departments, and various departments of the University of Baltimore.
  • Alumni Outreach – Board members are expected to extend the reach of law school communication efforts by sharing information with fellow UBalt law alumni and encouraging their engagement in law school events and fundraising efforts.
  • Give-or-Get Philanthropic Contribution – Board members will actively participate in activities to secure financial support for the law school. During annual board member check-in meetings, Board members will establish their individual give-or-get fundraising goal.
