Alternative Spring Break
Stay tuned for more information!
Take a break and give back.
Each year, students in our Alternative Spring Break program visit Mullens, West Virginia for a weeklong service-learning experience in collaboration with Rural Appalachian Improvement League, a nonprofit with a mission is to improve education, foster economic development, increase community engagement and develop community and environmental initiatives.
Participants in our Alternative Break program will:
- experience Appalachian culture and history
- complete hands-on service learning projects on topics such as environmental sustainability, nutrition and social justice
- build relationships with other UB students and within the Mullens, West Virginia community.
Students must pay a $65 participation fee and enroll in a 1 credit course (GVPP.497: Community Building Appalachia). All transportation and lodging, as well as most meals for the trip, are included in the fee.
Applications for the 2017 Alternative Break trip will open in Oct. 2016.
