Requirements

  • J.D. degree or equivalent (J.D. or equivalent degrees earned in the United States must be from law schools that have the approval of the American Bar Association);
  • Official transcript sent directly from each law school attended to the Office of Law Admissions.
    • Graduates of the University of Baltimore School of Law do not need to submit transcripts.
  • A letter of recommendation evaluating your potential for success in the program is accepted but not required.
  • Admission is offered to candidates whose previous academic achievement and work experience indicate high promise for success in graduate study.

General Admission Procedures and Applications

Admission to the Certificate in Estate Planning program is on a rolling basis. Students may start the program at the beginning of the fall or spring semesters or the summer session.

Application deadlines:

  • Aug. 1 for fall semester
  • Dec. 1 for spring semester
  • May 1 for summer session

Applications completed and submitted after these dates can be considered, but preference is given to those received by the deadline. Different application deadlines apply to international students/graduates of foreign schools (see below).

How to apply:

Submit the completed application and materials detailed below directly to the Office of Law Admissions:

  • Complete the application for admission.
  • Please request official transcripts from J.D. or LL.B granting institution be sent electronically to: taxadmissions@ubalt.edu, James Simermeyer, Assistant Director of Admissions, Non-J.D. Programs
    • Electronic versions of official transcripts are preferred.
    • If the official transcripts are only available in print, and must be mailed physically, please send to :
      • Office of Law Admissions
        University of Baltimore School of Law

        Baltimore, MD 21201
    • Graduates of the University of Baltimore School of Law do not need to submit transcripts.
  • A letter of recommendation evaluating your potential for success in the program is accepted but not required.


Admission as International Student/Graduate of Foreign School

Application deadlines:

Fall Deadline: June 1 
Spring Deadline: Nov. 1 
Summer Deadline: March 1 

 

Applications received after the deadline may be considered, but preference will be given to applications received before the deadline.


International Applicants/Graduates with a First Degree in Law from a non-US Institution:

  • Submit a completed application.
  • Have an official transcript from degree issuing institution sent to taxadmissions@ubalt.edu
  • Have an evaluated and translated transcript is sent to taxadmissions@ubalt.edu
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score sent directly to taxadmissions@ubalt.edu
    • If the applicant has completed advanced coursework in English, they may request a waiver by emailing taxadmissions@ubalt.edu
  • A letter of recommendation evaluating an applicant's success in the program may be submitted, but is not required.

International applicants must meet the same admissions requirements in addition to those required of U.S. citizens. The applicant's visa classification and academic background determine the nature of these requirements. Non-immigrant applicants must submit the Supplemental International Applicant Information Sheet and provide current visa documentation and evidence of financial resources.

 

After an application is received, qualified applicants in need of a student visa will placed in contact with and receive assistance from the International Student Advisor. Successful receipt of a student visa will require completion of an I-20 form and submission of financial certification documents. International students who have not successfully been issued the correct visa will not be able to enroll in classes and may have to defer admission until successfully receiving the correct documentation.
