Welcome to our Orientation FAQs page! We know that starting at a new university can bring up many questions, and we're here to help. This page provides answers to some of the most common questions new students have about The University of Baltimore's orientation process. Whether you're wondering about registration, what to expect during orientation, or how to prepare for your first day, you'll find the information you need here. If you don’t see your question listed, feel free to reach out to our team here—we’re happy to assist you!

Orientation is not mandatory, but it is strongly encouraged for you to attend. The information given at orientation is important to your success at UBalt. If you are unable to attend, you will receive information after orientation and please visit UBalt Ready for more information as well.

Orientation registration emails are sent starting a few months prior to orientation, once the student has been admitted.

Students can register for an orientation session on the main Orientation page. Registration is required for planning purposes. Students can not register via email, phone, or fax.

Each orientation is planned with content specific to a unique UBalt population (Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences and Freshman Students, College of Public Affairs or Merrick School of Business). If you are unable to attend your orientation, you will receive follow-up information after orientation and it is encouraged for you to visit UBalt Ready

Orientation is made up of the below-

5-5:45 p.m. Check In and Resource Fair

6-7 p.m. Forge Your Future Opening Session and Student Leader Panel

7-8 p.m. Academic Breakouts by College/School

During orientation, you will participate in academic sessions, meet with representatives from your chosen academic department and or/academic advisors from the area of your intended major, and discuss your plans for the semester. Orientation is also your opportunity to connect with the UBalt community before your first day of classes, meet with new peers, and learn important information about life at UBalt from current students.

Orientation inclues optional items such as tours and breakout sessions. It also includes ability to get your Bee Card, a resource fair with a variety of offices and services, and a Forge Your Future session complete with Financial Aid, Student Success & Support Services, Tutoring Services, and more.

A limit of one guest per person is permitted, however there is not a specific family and guests orientation. You are expected to add the guest during the registration process, and we will do our best to accomodate them.

There is no cost for orientation. However, transportation will have costs, whether bus, light rail, or parking. Parking will be available at the Fitzgerald Garage for a self-service $7 pre-pay at the gate for students and guests. When guests arrive, the gate machine will display the $7 rate, and they'll be able to pay using a debit or credit card ONLY before entering the garage.  After payment, the machine will issue a receipt, which they will use to exit when they leave.

Orientation begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. The schedule will be provided upon check-in. Check-in will begin as soon as staff is able to assist.

Campus tours will be offered during the first part of the orientation program as time and space allows.

We strongly recommend that international students attend the orientation program on the correct night. The Office of Diversity and International Services will send out separate communication about an ongoing series of mini-orientations, called "Campus Connections" that aim to give international students an introduction to campus resources and opportunities on campus.  These occur every Thursday during the first month of the semester.
